My writer’s group met last Saturday, and they’re some of the most fun people I know to hang out with. Writing can beĀ lonely because you spend hours – even days – staring at a screen or scribbling notes that you hope make sense. It’s one of those jobs you have to do alone. Lots of other people don’t understand how much time and energy it can take to write something just the right way, where the words sing on the page and mean something to a reader instead of falling flat and being boring. Only other writers can really relate to how great it feels to find the perfect word or how rewarding it is to finish an article or story that translated to paper just like you heard it in your mind (because, believe me, that transition from a thought to actual words doesn’t always work well). So that’s part of why I love my local writer’s group and why I’ve gotten more involved with online writer’s groups – because we all need friends who understand us and love us anyway.
What about you? Who are your peeps who love you, understand you, and stand by you no matter what? What brought you together in the first place? Did you meet because of common interests, or did you just end up sitting beside each other in class? More importantly, what keeps you together?
I’d love to hear the stories behind some of those great friendships you’ve built, or the ones you’re still working on. Leave a comment here or email me at leigh@godlygirlplace.com. And maybe next month I’ll take my camera to my writer’s group and share some pix with you!

You are so right!
