Godly Girl Place

About Leigh

My name is Leigh, and I’m a Christian writer and speaker. My “real” work (that is, the work that helps pay the bills) involves writing and editing all sorts of things for businesses — website copy, brochures, magazine articles, newsletters, etc. But my favorite work is whatever I’m doing when I write and speak for God — devotionals, Bible studies, Sunday school curriculum, presentations for women’s or girls’ groups, etc. I’ve always loved to write, and God led me to teaching about 8 years ago. Now that He’s shown me how to merge the writing and teaching with speaking, He’s created a dangerous girl! But I’m having a blast as I watch Him grow my ministry, so I guess that’s what counts.

My first devotional book for teen/tween girls is due out in November 2007. It’s called Divas in Disguise, and takes a look at a lot of women from the Bible and the lessons we can learn from them. Sometimes the women who look like they have it all together are way off base, and the women no one pays attention to are the ones who are right on track!

I’m finishing my second devotional for girls, called Every Girl’s a Diva. It will hit the shelves in early 2008, and looks at how each of us is special in God’s eyes, no matter who we are or where we’re from.

Thanks for stopping by Godly Girl Place. I hope this will be a place you can visit and tell your friends about when you’re looking for things to help keep you on track in the world.

Way to go! Hip hip hooray!!!!

P.S. Our church is having a girls’ day Jan 12th. I went to a youth conference and couldn’t get it off my heart. We’re going to have a counselor, a police officer (domestic violence), and a nurse. All are females and Christians and are comfortable with discussing nitty-gritty. It’s free to any high school girl. I can’t remember where you live, but if it’s anywhere close to the Chateau Elan area and you’d like to invite any girls, let me know. Feel free to come too!

Love,
Julie Garmon

Hi, Emily! I so enjoyed visiting with your group before school — I need to post one of the photos! It was great to meet all of you and great to hear that you’re working on your own book. It’s a lot of work, but well worth it! And I’m glad to hear that you’re learning new things from my devotional book. Every writer wants to make a difference in someone’s life and it’s exciting — but very humbling — when you realize that has actually happened. I’ll be posting here as I learn more about when my next book will be ready, so stay tuned!

leighs-pix-red.jpg I'm a freelance writer/editor, Christian writer, and speaker for women's and girls' groups. I also teach upper elementary and middle school Sunday school classes and like finding ways to help girls realize how special they are in God's eyes. One of my favorite Scriptures for girls is Psalm 45:11 -- "The king is enthralled by your beauty. Honor him, for he is your Lord." That's something we all need to learn: that we're beautiful inside and out, just because God made us!
